Dozens Of Dummies Dash In The Dark...A Good Cause...And A Prison Break

Saturday Pauly and I headed up to the town where we met...good old Reading, PA for a night time race. It started at a German restaurant nestled in the woods, halfway up a mountain behind the college where Pauly and I met. The race was called "The Dark and Dirty 6.5 Mile Race" and that was exactly what it was. Dark and Dirty. 500 or so crazies lined up with LL Bean headlamps on their heads to run 6.5 miles, in the dark, through the woods, up and down a mountain.

I am only running about 3 miles now, so I was not able to participate in this race, but I was there to cheer Pauly on, and through the finish line. It was a ton of fun, and Pauly had an awesome time...so here are some pics.
The t-shirts they gave to participants said "dozens of dummies dash in the dark"...hence the title of the post.

Pauly at the starting line, with his headlamp and glow sticks on.

Some of the other "dummies" at the starting line.
Pauly approaching the finish line. No, he doesn't have a big glowing stick on his head...the headlamps looked like this in pics from the bouncing up and down of running.

Sunday morning we got up and headed to S. Philly to meet up with Anna and Mike for the Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk. The guys hung out and watched ESPN, and Anna and I did the 5K walk. It was a beautiful day, and it was nice to spend some quality time with Anna :-)

The boys took us out for pancakes and french toast after the walk...which was FAB-U-LOUS!!

Anna and I in our "pink" gear for the walk.

In other news...about 1 and a half hours ago, we were leaving the house to run to Walgreens. I thought Pauly was right behind me so I left the front screen door open and Lily walked RIGHT out of the house. Instead of just standing still, letting us pick her up, or walking back in the house, she started swiftly walking along the side of the house and into the back yard. It was dark outside and all sorts of horrible thoughts are going through my head. All I was thinking was "oh my gosh...if she gets into the back yard we will NEVER see her again". This is my Lily! My first roommate, my best friend, my furry kid!!! Holy cra*!
She paused for like a second on the back patio, and I threw myself on top of her and grabbed her. Well obviously that scared her, she screamed like someone was killing her, and then proceeded to scratch and bite like crazy. Well, the Mama in me wasn't letting go no matter what she did, until she was safe and sound INSIDE the house. So that was where we ran. Kicking, scratching, biting and screaming. When I finally put her down inside we realized that my hands were shredded and bleeding. I am now covered in bandages, and think I may have some pretty decent damage on my right hand. But my cat is safe :-)
Are the people from cat social services going to come and lock me up? Seriously! Two cat episodes in like 3 days! What the heck is wrong with me? You would think from the sound of it that I do this sort of stuff all the time. I honestly don't...I swear.
Maybe I really am a mental basket-case!
We need to get a referral soon so I can cease to be a danger to myself AND to others.

Oh, I think we're a similar type of cat parents. When we got our windows replaced a few years ago, my cat Dumpling escaped from the safe room and I grabbed her just before she jumped out the open window (or missing window since it was being replaced). To this day, I still have a nasty scar on my collarbone area from Dumpling. But hey, I made sure that she was safe, right? :-)

Wow - I take my running hat off to Paul for running that far - and in the dark!

It sounds like Miss Kitty is also getting anxious to find Olivia.

OH honey.. it happens more when your head is full and your head is definitely full with "waiting for baby referral news". Don't worry, I know exactly how you feel. My Levi Nathaniel (huge orange and white manx cat) is one of my 4 pride and joy fur babies.. he is actually the first of my fur babies and I just go to pieces if something happens to him or any fur baby! Hang in there hon.. and don't be so hard on yourself!! I hope you get good news soon!!! And the race in the dark looks like fun! Only for brave souls though!! lol..

Your furry kids are just anxious to meet the new kid - that's all. You need to read some books about adding a new baby sister ;-)

Dude, I so don't think you are a bad cat mama, just a preoccupied cat mama.....I stuck a brand new gallon of milk in the pantry for an overnight stay. The milk faired about as well as your hands did in the kitty rescue.

Hopefully your day is coming!!!!

um...excuse me girly but you were not even 10 minutes from my house. I would have loved to have a little meet up ;)

I am wondering how I have never heard about this run? My friend Sara would have loved that!

Your time is just about here and I am predicting you will get a call within the week. Hang in there, and since I just did all the paperwork and all is fresh in my mind, please give me a hollar if you need help or have any questions. BTW, I just realized that although we have not made a final decision on a name for our baby girl, Olivia is the top one on the list....cool.
